Hail to the Chief...

I recently watched the mini series "John Adams", which was wonderfully done.  One of the most interesting things was the condition of the White House at the time he came to office.  The building was a shambles.  This sent me to hunt down some more inspiring photos of the most famous office in the world.

This is one of the earliest photos of the actual Oval Office, in 1909, William H. Taft was President.  Before this, other rooms in the White House were used as Presidential offices.

Calvin Coolidge's office in 1927.

In 1929 the Oval Office was seriously burned in a fire.

Franklin Roosevelt's office in 1945.

The first of the more modern era Oval Offices, and the first TV to enter the office.  Dwight D. Eisenhauer, 1956.

President John F. Kennedy actually had 3 different office decors... only two of which he lived to use.

He used the Eisenhower decor in 1961...

JFK's office in 1963... which is adapted to his back problems.

While the Kennedys were on that fateful trip to Dallas, his office was redecorated... neither he nor Jackie ever saw this office.  It was dismantled before his body returned to Washington.

The office of Lyndon Johnson, who used most of the redecorated Kennedy office.  Now there are 3 televisions.

The office of Ronald Regan, on his last day... I really like how bright and elegant this office is.

The office of Bill Clinton, 1996.  There's something casual and cheerful about this office...

President Barack Obama's office... where's the TV?  I think this office reflects elegance and respect. He chose to keep the rug that George Bush installed.
